About the Operational Direction Communicable & Infectious Diseases (OD-CID)
The primary mission of Operational Direction Communicable and Infectious Diseases (OD-CID) is the early and rapid detection of existing or (re)-emerging infectious and communicable diseases in Belgium, their prevention and treatment.
In the frame of its mission, the OD-CID is a recognized centre of excellence for the research of infectious diseases.
It plays an important role in the Belgian, European and international network of surveillance, reference laboratories and centres of expertise for infectious diseases and food safety.
Through its work and expertise, or in collaboration (coordination of surveillance and crises management) with other operational directions (notably the DO Public Health and Surveillance), OD-CID reliably informs policymakers and the public on new developments in public health, security of the food chain, food and the environment.
The OD-CID is one of the four operational directions of the Scientific Institute of Public Health (IPH)
the OD-CID activities are located on two sites.
